Driver Escapes Burning BMW After Crash on I-275 Near Sligh Avenue

A 20-year-old Tampa man escaped injury after his vehicle caught fire following a crash on Interstate 275 late Saturday night.

The crash occurred on April 18, 2026, at approximately 11:10 p.m. near milepost 48 on I-275. According to investigators, a BMW 328i was traveling northbound when the driver attempted a last-second lane change to exit onto Sligh Avenue.

During the maneuver, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which traveled onto the shoulder, struck a fence, and entered a ditch. After coming to a stop, the vehicle caught fire.

The driver was able to evacuate the vehicle and was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
