Driver Killed in Crash After Being Incapacitated By a Large Piece of Metal Traveling Through His Windshield

The fatal crash occurred on Friday, March 24, 2017 at approximately 1:56 PM on I-275 near Lois Avenue in Tampa, Florida.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), 33 year-old Leonardo Landin of Tampa was traveling southbound on I-275 approaching Lois Avenue.

Troopers say a large piece of metal, possibly from a commercial motor vehicle, entered the front windshield striking Landin.  He was reportedly incapacitated by the object and lost control of his 2017 Chevy Pickup truck.  Landin’s truck traveled to the outside shoulder and struck a concrete barrier and guardrail.

He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he died on Saturday, March 25, 2017 as a result of his injuries sustained in the incident.
