Driver Dies After Collision with Parked Car Sunday Afternoon in Clearwater

Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to a crash that killed 57 year-old Lonnie Washington at the intersection of Douglas Avenue and Overbrook Avenue.

The crash occurred at appoximately 4:19 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019.

According to police, a Hyundai Genesis left the road and struck a parked car.

The impact pushed the parked car into a pole and the Hyundai continued on before coming to rest in a vacant lot. The male driver was taken to Mease Dunedin Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

As of 7:15 p.m., the intersection remains closed until the investigation is conducted.

The name of the victim will not be released until relatives are notified.
