DUI crash in St. Petersburg: Toddler ejected, driver faces multiple charges

A two-year-old child was seriously injured in a DUI crash late Friday night.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday, July 5th. Krista Carver, 33, of Pinellas Park, Florida, was driving a green Kia SUV southbound in the median lane of the 4200 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South.

The SUV was swerving within its lane and did not have its headlights on. It crossed the opposing travel lanes and crashed into a large tree in front of 4400 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South.

According to investigators, the two-year-old passenger was improperly secured in a child safety seat and was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. The child was transported to John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Carver was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital and treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She showed signs of impairment at the scene and was subsequently arrested.

Carver faces charges of driving under the influence, causing serious bodily injury, child neglect, reckless driving, causing serious bodily injury, and possession of a controlled substance.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
