Dunedin Man Seriously Injured in Single Vehicle Motorcycle Crash in Oldsmar
Justin Kaune, age 37 of Dunedin, was seriously injured after losing control of his motorcycle in Oldsmar early this morning.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:39 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018 in the southbound lane of Bayside Boulevard just north of Sheffield Court.
The crash is being investigated by the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say that Kaune was traveling south on Bayside Boulevard, while driving his 2011 Suzuki motorcycle at a high rate of speed. The Suzuki struck a raised cement median, just north of Sheffield Court, causing the motorcycle to lose control.
Kaune was ejected from the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Kaune was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators say that speed and impairment appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
The investigation continues.
