The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continues to investigate a vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 4:47 a.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2019.

The single vehicle crash occurred on East Lake Road at Pasado Drive in Pinellas County.

According to troopers, 25 year-old Kyle Birdyshaw was traveling northbound on East Lake Road approaching Pasado Drive in a 2002 Ford Focus. For an unknown reason, Birdyshaw lost control of the vehicle which departed the roadway.

Birdyshaw over-corrected back across the roadway, entered the median, rotated, collided with a light pole, and finally struck a tree.

His passenger, 37 year-old Ruel Depante Ramos, was transported to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point where he died from his injuries.

Birdyshaw was transported to Mease Countryside hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

FHP reports that both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. At this time, it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash. The investigation continues.
