Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) are conducting an ongoing investigation into a collision in Bradenton that resulted in the death of a bicyclist and injury to a pedestrian.
The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. According to preliminary findings, the driver of a northbound SUV, a 59-year-old male, was in the left lane on US 41 (14th Street West), approaching 33rd Avenue West.
Simultaneously, a 33-year-old male bicyclist was traveling southbound on US 41, while a pedestrian walked south on the sidewalk alongside the southbound travel lanes of US 41.
The SUV crossed a raised curb, entered the southbound travel lanes of US 41, and collided with the bicyclist, resulting in the cyclist’s death at the scene. Subsequently, the vehicle struck a utility pole and ignited. Debris from the collision also struck a 27-year-old male pedestrian, a resident of Bradenton, causing minor injuries. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
