Fatal Crash Involving Man on Electric Bicycle in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg, FL — On Friday, November 8, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a collision occurred at the intersection of 7th Avenue South and 59th Street South involving an electric bicycle and a Jeep Compass.

Jason Newberry, 50, was riding an electric bicycle southbound on 59th Street South when he reportedly failed to yield at a stop sign as he approached 7th Avenue South.

His bicycle collided with the passenger side of a westbound silver Jeep Compass. The driver of the Jeep remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.

Newberry, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bicycle upon impact. He was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront St. Petersburg, where he died from his injuries later that evening at 10:45 p.m.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
