Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force Investigates Deputy-Involved Shooting

The Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force was activated to investigate a shooting involving three Pinellas County Sheriff’s Deputies.

St. Petersburg Assistant Chief David Gerardo provided the following information at the scene.

Synopsis:

On Friday, November 8th, at about 10:30 p.m., Pinellas County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a domestic incident at 2501 47th Avenue North.

When they arrived, a woman met them outside with her teenage son and daughter. The teen girl informed deputies that her mother’s domestic partner, 42-year-old Jeremy Lyle Reed, had pointed a gun at her inside the home.

The deputies moved the woman and the teens to a safer area north of the house and began setting a perimeter around the home to arrest Reed.

Reed, armed with a handgun, exited the house and ran toward the deputies and the victims. Three deputies fired at Reed, striking him. He was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. No one else was injured.

Deputies Involved:

1. Deputy Jessee Creaser, sworn 9-27-21

2. Deputy Dylan Schultz, sworn 7-10-23

3. Corporal Stuart Kellman, sworn 4-7-14

They are on paid administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.

Background on the Task Force:

Established in 2020, the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force ensures that investigations into law enforcement use of deadly force are thorough, complete, and objective. The task force’s purpose is to guarantee that officer-involved shootings in Pinellas County are investigated by an independent agency, not by the agency involved in the incident.
