Woman dead following crash in St. Petersburg, DUI driver arrested

Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department are on the scene of a fatal crash involving two vehicles.

The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2019,  just west of the intersection of 54 Avenue S  and 28 Street S.

Investigators say a black Nissan pick-up truck, driven by 35 year-old Blake Faine, was westbound on 54th Avenue South.

A brown Nissan sedan, operated by 71 year-old Dorothy Wertz, was exiting a store at 3077 54th Avenue South to make an eastbound turn onto 54th Avenue South.

The front of the pick-up truck struck the drivers side of the sedan.

Wertz died as a result of her injuries. Faine was transported to the hospital and suffered serious injuries.

Blake Faine was arrested for DUI Manslaughter in this case
as he was impaired at the time of the crash according to investigators.

The westbound lanes of 54 Avenue South were closed between 28th and 31st Streets during the investigation.
