Fight over parking spot in downtown St. Petersburg ends with one fatally shot

The St. Petersburg Police Department and St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to reports of a gunshot trauma at approximately 12:51 a.m on Saturday, October 2, 2021. The call for service was in the 200 block of 1st Avenue North downtown St. Petersburg.

An adult male, identified as 29 year-old Gilbert Ray Bush was shot multiple times and transported to Bayfront Heath St. Petersburg in grave condition. The man died at the hospital.

At this time it appears that Bush and 23 year-old Charles Edward Bentley engaged in an argument over Bentley and his friends standing in a parking spot that Bush wanted to park in. During this course of the argument Bentley pulled out a firearm and shot Bush multiple times before leaving the area on foot. Bentley was apprehended by officers a short distance from the scene. Bentley is being charged with 2nd Degree Murder.


It has been almost 13 years since the inception of IONTB.
