Fire at Bay Pointe Apartments leaves families displaced and dogs dead

Fire at Bay Pointe Apartments in Largo overnight.

Crews were dispatched to reports of a structure fire at the Bay Pointe Apartment complex at 2770 Roosevelt Blvd in Largo about 12:40am this morning.

Airport rescue and firefighting (ARFF) units at the nearby St Pete Clearwater airport reported seeing flames. Arriving units reported heavy smoke and flames in two of the units. A second alarm was called as additional resources were required.

Many families were displaced as the fire and smoke damage was extensive.  Two dogs died from the fire and others were outside with their owners.

One patient was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation due to smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
