Crews from Largo Fire Rescue worked to rescue a man from a water filled ditch late Friday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 PM in the 15300 block of US Hwy 19 along Frontage Rd.
The 911 call was placed by a woman who was walking home from work when she spotted the vehicle down below next to the sidewalk.
The driver of the car, its sole occupant, was removed from the vehicle after crews cut away parts of the vehicle. Crews were then able to slide the man up a ladder and out of the ditch to an awaiting Sunstar Paramedics unit. He was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.
The injuries were described as non life-threatening and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
The man appeared to be driving at a high rate of speed southbound on Frontage Rd and left the roadway. The vehicle crashed down into the ditch after going airborne striking the far side of the ditch. The ditch is located on the north side of H & R Powersports.
Largo Police Department was on-scene to investigate the details and cause of the crash.
