Fire at Tampa Marriott Leads to Evacuation and Road Closures

Tampa Police and Tampa Fire Department are on the scene of a fire at the Marriot Hotel located at 3805 W. Cypress Street.

All of the guests and hotel employees have been safely evacuated.

A guest in a room on the third floor of the four story hotel had turned on her room heater which began sparking and caught fire.

The woman alerted hotel staff and called 911 and also alerted guests in the hallway and adjacent rooms of the fire.

The hotel was quickly evacuated. The sprinkler system inside the room activated properly and kept the fire from spreading until firefighters arrived on scene to ensure the fire was out.

Fire damage was contained to the fire room. Other rooms sustained smoke and water damage.

Investigators believe the cause of the fire was electrical/mechanical malfunction of the room heater/air conditioner.

Westbound Cypress from Dale Mabry to Lois is shut down due to emergency rescue vehicles.
