Firefighters were dispatched to the Tsunami Japanese Steakhouse at approximately 6:11 a.m. on Friday March 4, 2022. The call for service at 2176 Tyrone Boulevard was in response to heat/smoke detector activation at the restaurant.
Arriving crews to the restaurant reported heavy smoke coming from the roof the structure.
Firefighters entered the building and located a fire in the area of the kitchen. The fire then appears to have spread in to the attic space. As firefighters began to pull some ceiling the smoke production increase significantly and black smoke became more intense. Due to the risk to the firefighters inside the restaurant, they retreated and moved to extinguish the fire from the exterior of the structure only.
AT 7 a.m., a third alarm was called to respond to this fire.
As of 9:30 a.m., firefighters were still working to extinguish the fire.
Tyrone Blvd was blocked between 18th Avenue N to 22nd Avenue N in both directions until approxomately 12:30 p.m.
No victims were located inside the restaurant during the initial search. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for an heat exhaustion evaluation.
The cause of thr fire is deemed undetermined and still under investigation.
