Gas Leak Prompts Full Closure of McMullen Booth Road

Fire Rescue units from multiple agencies were dispatched to reports of a gas leak in the 3100 block of McMullen Booth Road at approximately 11:45 a.m.

It is reported that a construction crew struck an 8″ natural gas line along the roadway.  Clearwater Gas personnel are on scene working to stop the flow of gas.

There appears to be significant damage to multiple lanes of McMullen Booth Road.

The Department of Transportation has been notified and will be inspecting the roadway once the flow of gas has been stopped.

Expect a prolonged closure in both directions of travel on McMullen Booth Road between SR-580 and Curlew Road.

Citizens traveling to Mease Countryside Hospital should approach from Curlew Road and continue southbound.

The northbound lanes reopened about 5:30 p.m. but the southbound lanes remained closed until approximately 2 a.m.
