The St. Petersburg Police Department continues to investigate an overnight shooting death.
Officers from the St. Petersburg Police received a call about a person shot outside in the parking lot of Leanne’s Rental Hall , 1566 16th Street South at approximately 3:37 a.m. on Monday, July 5, 2021.

Police say there was a large crowd of 100-150 gathered at that location.
When police arrived they found 27-year-old Eric Thornhill Chavis, of St. Petersburg. He was shot and suffered critical injuries. Officers administered first aid until rescue arrived.

The victim later died at the hospital.
