Howard Frankland Bridge closing for 16 hours starting Saturday, January 16th

All I-275 travel lanes on the Howard Frankland Bridge will close from 8 p.m. Saturday, January 16 to noon Sunday, January 17, weather permitting.

Electronic message boards and temporary signage will assist I-275 northbound and southbound motorists traveling around this closure via the posted detour route using Roosevelt Boulevard, Gandy Boulevard, and Dale Mabry Highway.

Other roadways (Roosevelt Boulevard, Bayside Bridge, Courtney Campbell Causeway, and Memorial Highway) will remain accessible and may provide an alternate route if needed.

Motorists should add approximately 30 minutes of travel time as traffic congestion and delays may occur while traveling on these roadways during this closure.

This closure is necessary for crews to remove the 4th Street North bridge over I-275 as part of the Gateway Expressway project.

Once the overpass is removed, southbound I-275 Exit 32 (4th St) will remain closed while crews construct a new ramp at the same location to accommodate the widening of I-275. This new exit ramp should open back up to traffic in late 2021. The 4th St. to I-275 N ramp is unchanged.

It has been almost 8 years since the inception of IONTB. Our operating expenses are not huge by any stretch of imagination but funds are necessary for our continued survival.  We are asking for a one time contribution or contribution on a monthly basis to help continue IONTB to flourish and enhance the coverage of news in the Tampa Bay area. Think of it as just giving up just a couple of your favorite coffee drinks each month.
