Hundreds of Gallons of Vegetable Oil Spill on US-19 Following DUI Crash in Pinellas

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continues to investigate a crash that occurred at approximately 4:58 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019.

According to troopers, 26 year-old Ricardo Quintana of Port Richey was traveling northbound on US-19 just north of Curlew Road. In front of Quintana was 29 year-old Matthew Owen of St. Petersburg.

Troopers say that Quintana overtook and collided with the rear of Owen’s 1991 Chevy Truck. Following the collision, over 500 gallons of vegetable oil spilled from the Chevy truck. The spill closed the northbound lanes of US-19.

Quintana was arrested for DUI property damage, possession of cannabis, careless driving and having an open container.

Owen was not injured in the crash. Quintana suffered minor injuring and was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
