Investigation ongoing after young mother shot and killed in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg Police are investigating the city’s second fatal shooting this afternoon.

The shooting took place at approximately 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30th 2021 at 2216 18th Avenue South.

The victim died of her injuries. The victim is identified as 21 year-old K’Mia Simmons.

She was a passenger riding in a dark Volvo with a man and her two young children, on 22nd St at 18th Ave. S.

Police say that someone fired shots at them from another car.

The children were not injured.

It is very early in the investigation and at this time there is no obvious connection between the earlier homicide and this one.
