Largo man faces attempted murder charges for stabbing his elderly family member

Officers from the Largo Police Department (LPD) were dispatched to reports of a stabbing that occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021.

Upon arrival to the apartment in the 2200 West Bay Drive, officers located a woman who was stabbed multiple times. Officers were quickly assisted by crews from Largo Fire Rescue. The woman was transported as a trauma alert to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Officers began to look for 23 year-old Joseph Prout, who fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.

According to the arrest affidavit, the two got into an argument and Prout attacked her with a blender while she was in her bed. After the blender broke, he proceeded to stab her with glass from the blender. She suffered multiple lacerations throughout her body, some of which described as severe, along with a broken jaw, broken nose, and broken fingers.

He fled the scene in her vehicle, without permission, after removing the keys from her purse. He was later arrested by officers from LPD.

Prout was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and faces charges of attempted 2nd degree murder and grand theft of a motor vehicle
