Officers from the Largo Police Department responded to the Walmart located at 990 Missouri Avenue shortly before 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021.
Officers located an adult male in one of the aisles of the store suffering from a gunshot wound.
According to the arrest affidavit, 30 year-old Kyle Griffith of Largo was charged with carrying a concealed firearm. Police say that when Griffith bent over to pickup an item, in the store, the firearm discharged. The firearm was noted to be along his waistband without a holster. Griffith suffered a wound to his upper right thigh. Police were unable to confirm that he has a valid concealed firearm permit. The incident was witnessed by many shoppers in the store and captured on video surveillance.
Griffith was previously arrested for carrying a concealed weapon in March of 2021. At that time, police located him at the Brittany Bay Apartment Complex on Seminole Boulevard looking into vehicles and shining a flashlight toward resident’s balconies. Police located a firearm in his waistband along with several knives and handcuff keys.
He was released from the Pinellas County Jail on a bail amount of $2,000.
Following this arrest, his bail was revoked. He was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg as a trauma patient following the Walmart incident
