Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department (SPPD) are currently conducting a homicide investigation. The incident began at about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2021.
Police received a call about a shooting at 1253 8th Ave S. Upon arrival, they were able to quickly detain the suspect and begin to render first aid to the victim.
The victim, 27 year-old Leeza Martinez of Texas, was taken to the hospital and died of her injuries.
Police arrested 25 year-old Temidayo Ayoola. He is charged with 2nd degree murder.
Her 18 month old daughter was not injured. DCF took custody of her.
Police say that this appears to be a domestic related incident.
It is very early in the investigation and SPPD plans to release further information as it becomes available.
