Clearwater Police officers arrested a 25-year-old man on multiple charges after he drove on the beach.
John McGarry of Sandpoint, Idaho faces charges of reckless driving, resisting arrest without violence and driving with a suspended license.
Multiple people called police in the 2 p.m. hour on Saturday, April 25, 2020, to say there was a man driving on the beach in the Sand Key area.
McGarry was behind the wheel of a 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander traveling north when he was first spotted.
Police say that he refused to stop for officers and took off at speeds of about 35 mph on the sand. He eventually was stopped in the parking lot of the Sheraton Sand Key as he tried to make it back to Gulf Boulevard.
He told officers who stopped him that he was bored.
He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
