Man Dies In Traffic Crash on Keene Road, Two Others Injured

Joao Manuel Cavaco, age 45, was killed in a vehicle crash after losing control of his 2002 Honda S2000. The crash occurred at about 7:10PM on Saturday, February 28, 2015. It occurred near the intersection of Keene Road and Oakdale Lane just south of Belleair Road.
According to the Largo Police Department (LPD), Cavaco was traveling southbound in his Honda when he entered the northbound lane and was struck by a 2013 Nissan Sentra.
The Nissan was being driven by 44 year-old Keven Cowley. His daughter, 19 year-old Kansas Cowley was a passenger in the vehicle as well.
Both Kevin and his daughter were transported to Morton Plant with serious injuries but are expected to recover according to authorities.
Crews from Largo Fire Rescue worked to rapidly extricate Cavaco due to the extent of his injuries. Cavaco was struck directly on the driver’s side door leaving extensive damage. Cavaco was transported to Morton Plant Hospital where he later died.
The investigation continues.
