The fatality crash occurred at approximatley 11:35 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018, killing 58 year-old Jon Pendleton of Tarpon Springs.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department responded to the call of a multi vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. Hwy 19 at Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

When investigating units arrived, they found Pendleton laying in the second lane from the median, with multiple  injuries, a wheelchair with considerable damage in the third lane from the median.

In addition, they located a 1995 Silver four door Chevy, and a 2013 four door Volkswagen, that were both pulled into the median turn lane of U.S. Hwy 19 and Lime St.

Upon investigation, it was determined that Jon Pendleton was operating a manual  wheelchair crossing U.S. Hwy 19 from east to west approximately three feet outside and to the south of the marked crosswalk and against a red light.

Witnesses reported that when Pendleton was near the lane closest to the  median he was waving his arms and yelling at vehicles.

The 1995 Silver Chevy, which was being operated by 23 year-old New Port Richey resident, struck the wheelchair causing Pendleton to be ejected from the wheelchair and move into the second lane from the median.

The 2013 Volkswagen, which was being operated by a Tarpon Springs man, then struck Pendleton and then came to a stop.

Pendleton was transport to Florida Hospital of North Pinellas and pronounced deceased on September 18, 2018 at 12:54 a.m.
