Man on Electric Scooter Killed in St. Petersburg Hit-and-Run

ST. PETERSBURG — A 37-year-old man riding an electric scooter was killed in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night at 5th Avenue North and Tyrone Boulevard North.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:50 p.m. on August 19, 2026.

According to police, a black Toyota sedan was traveling westbound on 5th Avenue North in the curb lane as it crossed through the intersection with Tyrone Boulevard North.

At the same time, the 37-year-old man was riding a motorized stand-up scooter from south to north across 5th Avenue North. Police said he was outside the crosswalk and crossing against the pedestrian walk signal.

As the man entered the westbound curb lane, he was struck by the Toyota and thrown from the scooter. The driver of the Toyota fled the scene following the crash.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Police said the driver of the Toyota was later located. No information was immediately provided regarding possible charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.
