Suspect in custody after man killed on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg

Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department responded to the area of Central Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street just before 1:30 a.m. on September 28, 2021. Their response was due to hearing gunshots fired in the area.

Upon arrival to the area, an adult male was found shot. He was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he died from his injuries.

The victim has been identified as 26 year-old Shane Tyler Boyd.

St. Petersburg Police issued a warrant for 48 year-old Donovan Elmalik Gamel Shabazz earlier this week after learning that he was the shooter.

On September 30, 2021, Tampa Police officers arrested Shabazz without incident in the 1200 block of 113th Ave E, and booked him into the Hillsborough County Jail.

After speaking with several witnesses and Shabazz, SPPD charged him with one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. His booking photo is available through the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Below is the previous incarceration history for Shabazz, aka. Harold Baker from the Florida Department of Corrections.
