Minor League Philadelphia Phillies Baseball player arrested for driving under the influence following a crash in Belleair Bluffs

On Saturday, March 11, 2023, deputies assigned to the DUI Unit arrested 23-year-old Konnor Ash, a minor league baseball player for the Philadelphia Phillies, for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) with property damage.

At approximately 8:50 p.m., deputies observed Ash driving at high speed, traveling eastbound on West Bay Drive, approaching Indian Rocks Road. Shortly after, deputies heard the vehicle crash after losing sight of him.

Deputies immediately responded and located the vehicle, which struck a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) speed limit sign and a wall near the intersection of Indian Rocks Road and West Bay Drive in Belleair Bluffs, causing an estimated $20,000 in damages. The wall surrounded Walgreens at 800 West Bay Drive. According to deputies, Ash was sitting just outside the open driver’s side door with minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Deputies say Ash admitted to driving the vehicle, losing control, and crashing it.

According to deputies, Ash displayed signs of impairment, including bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and a distinct odor of alcohol emitting from his breath. Ash refused to provide a blood sample.

Following his medical discharge, Ash was transported to the Pinellas County Jail and charged with one count of Driving Under the Influence with property damage.

The investigation continues.
