A two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a truck hauling a boat leaves one dead.  The crash occurred just outside the entrance to the War Veterans’ Memorial Park at 9600 Bay Pines Boulevard.

At approximately 2:47pm, units from multiple agencies were dispatched to this crash.   Among those ultimately dispatched were Seminole Fire Rescue, Madeira Beach Fire Department, Lealman Fire Rescue, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, and Sunstar Paramedics.

The motorcyclist was identified as Justin J. Johnson, age 20, of Ruskin.  He sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he later died.  Mr. Johnson was the helmeted driver of a 2004 Honda Motorcycle that stuck the passenger side of the Toyota Tundra.  The Toyota Tundra was driven by Robert Sterner, age 67, of Seminole.  He had four passengers in the vehicle and was pulling a trailer with a Pontoon Boat at the time of the crash.

According to deputies, the driver of a 2002 Toyota Tundra, pulling a trailer with a Pontoon Boat was traveling westbound on Bay Pines Blvd. The Tundra was making a left turn into the entrance of the memorial park, when the driver of a 2004 Honda Motorcycle struck the passenger’s side of the Tundra.

The truck involved in the crash came to rest up against the large concrete sign for the park.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team will continue to investigate the cause of the crash since it occurred within the Seminole City Limits.  They report that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the incident.
