Motorcyclist and Pedestrian Killed in New Port Richey Collision

The New Port Richey Police Department is currently investigating a New Port Richey crash that killed two people.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018.

According to Lt. Lauren Letona of the New Port Richey Police Department, officers arrived at U.S. Highway 19 at Palmetto Rd in reference to a motor vehicle crash.  A 41 year old man from St Petersburg Florida was driving a 2012 Honda motorcycle traveling north on U.S. Highway 19 in the center lane approaching Palmetto Rd.

An unknown aged male pedestrian was crossing US Highway 19 (from west to east and not in a designated crosswalk) at Palmetto Rd.  According to police, the pedestrian crossed the northbound lanes in front of the motorcycle.  The motorcycle then struck the pedestrian.

Both the pedestrian and the driver of the motorcycle were pronounced deceased on scene.  Speed does not appear to be a factor according to investigators.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs may have contributed to the crash.  The investigation is still ongoing.  The pedestrian could not be immediately identified and next of kin has not been notified.
