On March 12, 2023, at 3:46 p.m., a silver Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 28-year-old Jeffrey Early Johnson was traveling eastbound in the 2000 block of Central Avenue.
A gray Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycle operated by 49-year-old Stephen Mathowsky
was traveling westbound in the 1900 block of Central Avenue.

Both east and westbound traffic had a green light. Johnson attempted to make a left-hand turn northbound onto 20th Street South as Matkowsky was entering the intersection.
Johnson failed to yield to the right of way to Matkowsky, resulting in the crash.

Matkowsky was transported to Bayfront Health with serious injuries, and died from his injuries on March 21, 2023.
