Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Crash While Trying to Speed Off From Rear-end Collision in Madeira Beach

Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.), are investigating a motorcycle vs vehicle hit and run crash in Madeira Beach.

The crash occurred on Gulf Boulevard, just south of 131st Avenue East in Madeira Beach at approximately 10:54 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018.

According to investigators, 30-year-old D’Anta Solomon was driving his 2008 Volkswagen Jetta northbound in the curb lane of Gulf Boulevard approaching the intersection of 129th Avenue West in Madeira Beach, when he slowed down for a vehicle making a right turn off of Gulf Boulevard.

55-year-old Lance Mc Leod of Seminole was behind Solomon driving his 2014 Harley Davidson northbound in the curb lane of Gulf Boulevard, when he rear-ended Solomon’s  Volkswagen. After the impact, Mc Leod left the scene of the crash and sped off on his motorcycle, northbound on Gulf Boulevard.

Investigators say Mc Leod continued north towards the intersection of 131st Avenue East, where he rear-ended a second vehicle, a 2002 Honda Civic being driven by a 61-year-old Urszula B Brzeska Boguszewsk. The crash caused Mc Leod to lose control and he was ejected off his motorcycle.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Mc Leod to Bayfront Health  St. Petersburg Hospital for serious non-life threatening injuries. Neither of the drivers nor their passengers were injured as a result of the crash.

Investigators have reason to believe Mc Leod was impaired at the time of the crash.

The investigation continues.
