Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in St. Petersburg Crash

St. Petersburg Police continue to investigate a serious injury motorcycle crash.  The crash occurred at 23rd Avenue North and 49th Street North at approximately 12:57 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018.

Investigators say a 2006 Honda VTX1300 motorcycle, driven by 47 year-old Robert Douglas Blume, was northbound on 49th Street North approaching the curve for Sheffield Lake at 23rd Avenue North.

The Honda failed to negotiate the curve and continued straight across a small patch of grass. Upon re-entering the roadway, Blume lost control of his motorcycle and the motorcycle struck the ground on its right side. The motorcycle slid across 23rd Avenue North and came to rest on a grass field in Sheffield Lake Park.

Blume, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Alcohol appears to have played a part in this crash, according to investigators.
