Officer fatally shoots woman after she attacks him with a butcher knife in front of Temple Terrace City Hall

The Temple Terrace Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting. The incident occurred at approximately 1:14 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2020. It occurred outside of the Temple Terrace City Hall located at 11250 N. 56th St.

For unknown reasons, after requesting officer assistance, 21 year-old Heba Momtaz Al-Azhari, initiated an unprovoked attack with a large knife on a uniformed police officer. Al-Azhari was shot when officers responded to the attack. She was transported to a local hospital where she later died. An officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the attack.

Footage of the attack was obtained from security cameras at City Hall.

The Temple Terrace Police Department is currently working with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Hillsborough County Sherriff’s Office to investigate this incident.

IONTB has obtained information from an unnamed source that the woman, 21 year-old Heba Momtaz Al-Azhari was the sister of Muhammed Momtaz Al-Azahari. He was arrested a few days ago after plotting attacks in the Tampa Bay area along with ties to ISIS.
