One Dead in Boating Accident Near Davis Island in Tampa
Tampa Police Department received a call regarding a boating accident near Davis Island at approximately 5:15 p.m. on August 5, 2018.
According to officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), there were two people on board at the time of the incident.
According to a witness, a 15-foot Gheenoe struck a piling and both individuals ended up in the water. The female passenger. 22 year-old Brittany Mundie of Tampa was recovered by Tampa Fire Rescue and transported to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators say the male, 22 year-old Keith Rohde of Lutz was later recovered and transported to Tampa General Hospital where he was declared deceased.
FWC investigators are working to determine the identification of both of the individuals on the vessel.
Tampa Fire Rescue, Tampa Police Department, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the United States Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) assisted with this search and rescue.
As of Tuesday, August 7, 2018, Mundie was still listed in serious condition.
