One Injured After Pinellas Deputy Involved in Rear-end Collision on 54th Avenue Tuesday Afternoon

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) continues to investigate a crash involving one of their own deputies. The crash occurred at approximately 6:33 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.

The crash occurred on 54th Avenue N near the intersection of 34th Street in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

Significant damage to the front of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

According to investigators, off-duty Deputy Kristie Campion was driving in her 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe cruiser westbound on 54th Avenue North. A 2015 Mercedes driven by 28-year-old Christine Yo of Tampa was also traveling westbound on 54th Avenue north and was slowing down just west of the intersection of 34th Street and 54th Avenue North.

Investigators say Deputy Campion failed to stop and crashed into the rear of Christine’s 2015 Mercedes C300.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Christine to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Deputy Campion was not injured.
