Overnight Crash Kills Woman on 102nd Avenue in Seminole

Crews from the City of Seminole Fire Rescue were dispatched to a vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 12:10 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019.

The crash occurred in the westbound lanes of 102nd Avenue near the intersection of 97th Street N.

First responders arrived on-scene to the heavily damaged vehicle and located two seriously injured occupants. Both occupants were declared trauma alerts and a request was made for an air transport unit to respond.

Firefighters worked for an extended time to free the woman, 37 year-old Shawn Bodden of Seminole, however, due to her extensive internal injuries she died at the scene.  The air transport, Aeromed, which landed at Osceola Fundamental High School was cancelled.

During the attempt to extricate Bodden, the male occupant of the vehicle, 39 year-old Rene Bergeron of Seminole, was transported by ambulance to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with serious injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol arrived on-scene and will be conducting the crash investigation.

The preliminary information indicates that Bodden was traveling westbound on 102nd Avenue approaching the intersection of 97th Street in a 2006 Chevy HHR. As Bodden entered the intersection, she lost control and collided with a concrete barrier wall and guardrail.

Both Bodden and Bergeron were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash according to troopers. At this point in the investigation, it is unknown if alcohol was involved.
