Overnight single vehicle fiery crash closes I-75 in Manatee County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continue to investigate a fatality crash that occurred at approximately 2:54 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2022.

According to FHP, a driver was operating a Tesla southbound on Interstate-75 north of County Road 610 (University Parkway).

The driver lost control of the vehicle and veered onto the eastern paved shoulder and into a ditch located on the eastern shoulder. The front of the Tesla then collided with a tree and became engulfed in flames.

The driver was unable to exit the vehicle and was pronounced deceased on-scene by the Manatee County EMS.

The male driver has not been identified at this time.

All lanes related to the crash reopened at approximately 7:15 a.m.
