At the intersection of the two roadways, the ambulance entered the path of the tractor-trailer without yielding and was struck. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to jackknife onto the shoulder while the ambulance overturned.

The truck driver was uninjured. However, the ambulance driver and a 47-year-old crew member sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital. A 64-year-old female patient from Plant City, who was aboard the ambulance, was also injured. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
