Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue personnel responded Friday night to a traffic crash involving a 57-year-old male pedestrian.
The crash occurred in the 2200 block of Gulf to Bay Boulevard at approximately 9:50 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019.
Investigators say 57 year-old Clearwater resident Jeffrey L. Bickel, a pedestrian, was attempting to cross Gulf to Bay Boulevard when struck by a 2015 Chevy Cruze that was traveling in the eastbound lanes of travel.
Bickel was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg as a trauma alert where he died from his injuries.
Investigators say that Bickel was attempting to cross the street southbound in the middle of the block and not in a crosswalk when he walked into the path of the Chevy Cruze. The 20 year-old driver of the Chevy was not injured in the crash.
All eastbound lanes of Gulf-to-Bay from Belcher Road to Old Coachman Road were closed during the investigation.
