Bicyclist Killed in Clearwater Crash

Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue personnel were called to a crash involving a bicyclist where Nursery Road and the Duke Energy Trail intersect.

The call came in at 8:26 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

Police say the bicyclist, 49 year-old Carmen H. Charrez rode into the path of an eastbound Chevy Tahoe traveling on Nursery Road and was struck. Investigators say she was traveling south on the trail when she failed to yield the right of way.

Charrez was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where she was pronounced dead.

Nursery Road was closed between U.S. 19 and Belcher Road while the investigation was conducted.

The driver of the SUV, a 41 year-old Clearwater man, remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
