Crews from Largo Fire Rescue responded to reports of a traffic crash at approximately 8:25 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. The incident occurred in the area of Judy Lee Drive and Lake Judy Lee Drive. Initially, it was believed that the male in his 80s was injured in a fall unrelated to a crash. He was transported to HCA Florida Hospital Largo for a medical evaluation.
It was later determined that the elderly male, who was walking eastbound on the south side of Judy Lee Drive, was struck by a Ford F-150 truck also traveling eastbound. Once that information was revealed, members of the Largo Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Investigation Team responded to the scene.
The pedestrian, who was alert and oriented with medical staff on scene, was transported to HCA Florida Hospital Largo for what were thought to be minor injuries. The pedestrian’s injuries worsened quickly, and he passed away a short time later.
Neither speed nor alcohol/drugs appear to have been a factor in this investigation. No criminal charges are currently being investigated, according to Largo Police.
Only very limited information is available at this time, with many questions unanswered in the information released by the Largo Police Department.
