Pedestrian Struck and Killed Crossing 4th Street Wednesday Night in St. Petersburg
85 year-old Confeser Cruz was struck and killed by a vehicle on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at approximately 8 pm in St. Petersburg.
A 2014 Kia Optima, driven by a 74 year-old man, was northbound in the 6600 block of 4th Street North, in the northbound curb lane.
Cruz was walking across 4th Street North, from west to east, in the middle of the 6600 block. Cruz had crossed the southbound lanes and the raised median when he entered the northbound lanes again oncoming traffic.
An eyewitness, on the east side of 4th Street North, advised Cruz was calling out with his hand raised above his head and he was looking in her direction instead of oncoming traffic.
The front of the Kia then struck Cruz, throwing him up onto the vehicle and then to the roadway. Cruz was transported the Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he was pronounced dead.
St. Petersburg Police say, alcohol was not a factor for either party involved in this crash and no charges are expected.
