Person of interest in custody linked to two recent St. Petersburg shooting deaths

Detectives from the St. Petersburg Department, through investigative techniques, were able to identify a person of interest in the two recent homicides in St. Petersburg

The two victims are identified as Vernon Williams and Corlenzo Williams.

Working with Tampa Police Department and the FBI, investigators were able to take him into custody on Thursday, April 13, 2022

The male person of interest is currently being held in Hillsborough County on charges unrelated to the St. Petersburg shootings.

This is still an active investigation and no other details will be released at this time.

A homicide investigation is underway after a man was found down in the 2900 block of 17th Avenue South at approximately 1:09 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.

When they arrived they found a man, 24 year-old Corlenzo Williams, had suffered a gunshot and began CPR. He died of his injuries.

PREVIOUS ARTICLE FOR HOMICIDE ON APRIL 10

Investigators are currently on-scene of a death on Melrose Avenue S., west of Dr. MLK St. S.

Officers arrived to the scene at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2022 for reports of a man bleeding.

When officers arrived they found an 60 year-old Vernon Gene Williams deceased.

This case is now being investigated as a homicide. The victim is a 60 year old man. Police have not reached next of kin so his name is not being released.
