Two dead in early morning crash that closed the Courtney Campbell Causeway

At 3:42 a.m. on Wednesdsay, April 13, 2022, Tampa Police received calls advising that a traffic crash had occurred on the Courtney Campbell Causeway.  The callers stated that a vehicle had flipped over and multiple people had been ejected from the vehicle. Tampa Police and Clearwater Police responded immediately to provide medical attention to those involved.

One vehicle, a 2017 Nissan GT-R, operated by Joshua Roelof, rear-ended a 2005 Kia Sorrento with four people inside.

All four occupants of the Kia were ejected from the vehicle. Two 44 year-old men died at the scene of the crash. One 36 year-old man and a 33 year-old woman were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Detectives believe that alcohol and improper seatbelt usage were factors in this crash.

Roelof was uninjured in the crash.

The investigation continues and charges are pending.
