Vehicle Found Submerged Near 62nd Avenue North and Bayou Grande Boulevard.
Authorities have released additional information regarding a vehicle found in the water near 62nd Avenue Northeast and Bayou Grande Boulevard.
A 2012 white Ford F-250 pickup truck was traveling eastbound on 62nd Avenue Northeast. For reasons unknown, the driver continued eastbound to the end of the roadway, where the truck went through a guardrail and into a grassy area. The vehicle continued eastbound, struck trees, and then entered the water.
At approximately 7:15 a.m., a citizen later called to report a vehicle in the water. Fire rescue crews responded and located the driver inside the truck. The driver, identified as 35-year-old David Hawkins Jr., of St. Petersburg, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.
The roadway was closed during the investigation and has since reopened. The investigation remains ongoing.
