Pinellas County Investigate Deadly Personal Watercraft Accident in Dunedin

Members of multiple agencies responded to reports of a single personal watercraft accident near the Dunedin Causeway at approximately 10:55 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

According to deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, 60-year-old Gary Nolan was traveling on his 2017 Sea-Doo Personal Watercraft northbound along the east side of Caladesi Island, towards the Dunedin Causeway. As he approached the Hurricane Pass Channel, the watercraft struck a sandbar, causing Nolan to be thrown over the handlebars. The impact rendered him unconscious and resulted in facial trauma

Emergency responders transported Nolan to Mease Dunedin Hospital, where he died from his injuries.  Alcohol does not appear to have played a role in the crash, according to investigators.

Next of kin was notified, and the investigation continues.
