Pinellas deputies investigate hit and run crash seriously injuring teen bicyclist

Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a serious hit and run crash involving a vehicle versus a bicyclist in Dunedin.

According to investigators, on Monday, December 16, 2019, 16-year-old Ibrahim Paul of Palm Harbor was crossing County Road 1, on a bicycle, eastbound from Country Woods Lane at about 5:52 p.m., when he was struck by a vehicle.

Witnesses informed investigators that the vehicle did not stop or take any action to avoid the crash and it is unknown if the vehicle knew it was involved in a crash.

Investigators say the vehicle is described as a black Jeep Wrangler, with a dark colored soft top, traveling southbound on County Road 1.

Paul was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital via Bayflight with what deputies are calling serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies say Paul was not wearing a bicycle helmet, there were no lights on the bicycle, and he was not within a crosswalk at the time of the crash.
