Pinellas Park Police Say Bicycle Accident Victim Was Later Determined to Have a Gunshot Wound

Updated: October 24, 2017 – 7 p.m.

A 44 year old man is in critical condition at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg after suffering a single gunshot wound in Pinellas Park.

On Monday, October 23, 2017 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Pinellas Park Police patrol units responded to the 6600 block of 62nd Avenue North to assist fire department personnel in reference to what was reported as a bicycle accident.

The adult male bicyclist was transported from the scene to the hospital Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for treatment.  Investigating Officers were later notified by the hospital that the adult male bicyclist had suffered a single gunshot wound.

Pinellas Park Police has identified the victim as 44 year-old John Chesterfield Asch.  Asch is is considered homeless in the Kenneth City area.  He remains in critical condition at Bayfront Health Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Detectives continue to work the scene looking for any evidence that will help identify the shooting suspect(s).  The investigation continues.  At this time investigators have NO reason to believe that this shooting is in any way connected to the shootings that have recently occurred in Tampa, FL.
